Describe the work first
List what will change: cabinetry, worktop, wall finishes, partitions and services. Ask Mijas planning services which procedure applies to that scope and what documents are required. I do not assume that every kitchen renovation follows the same procedure; for Fuengirola, Marbella or another municipality, check with the relevant council.
Notify your building community
Article 7.1 of Spain’s Horizontal Property Law allows certain internal alterations within its limits and requires prior notice to the community’s representative. It does not permit unrestricted changes to structure, external appearance or other owners’ rights. If the work involves a façade, common elements or shared ducts, ask a technical professional and the building administrator to review the case first.
Coordinate building work, delivery and fitting
Council procedures and communication with the building community are separate matters. Agree contractor access, protection of common areas and waste removal as well. Kitchen design needs coordination with the professionals carrying out the work. This guide helps prepare those questions; it does not determine the permission required for a particular property.
